Referendum on Electoral Reform
Ontario is holding a referendum on electoral reform on election day on October 10th, 2007. Voters will be asked to vote "for" or "against" a new way of holding elections that has been recommended by a citizen's assembly. The Citizens Assembly on Electoral Reform spent the last year researching the issue and holding consultations across the province. It is recommending Ontario change to a "mixed member proportional representation" system. If 60% of voters across Ontario and a majority of voters in at least 60% of electoral districts vote "yes" in the upcoming referendum, Ontario will have a new voting system next time we go to the polls.
Make sure people know about the referendum in your community and understand enough about the new system to vote.
